Seminar Brief

Remote sensing instruments, neural networks, and exploratory data analysis bring us the possibility to investigate landscapes with new design methods. Through the sensing mechanisms and neural networks, we can look at different scales of the landscape and study patterns that exist at these scales and the new ones that appear when these scales intersect each other.

Methodology

The seminar will be exploring the various scales of the landscapes - from satellite imagery of the whole region to the small species inhabiting the selected site. Seminar participants will study their sites at three scales (macro, mesa, and micro) by collecting data with remote sensing instruments and data scraping techniques, and then augmenting and transforming collected data with machine learning and AI algorithms. These transformed, synthesized landscapes and biomes will

Learning Outcomes

As a part of the seminar, students will learn various approaches to data collection, augmentation, and processing. Students will learn such data capturing techniques as remote sensing, data scraping, and photogrammetry. Later this data will be augmented and processed with neural networks and will be converted into various 3D models representing the studied scales of the landscapes.
